It’s the idea first, taken from the vast memories and observations, that sets the path for each piece. Though the subject matter of the work may vary, keeping a sense of humor, and exploring the authenticity of a matter remains a constant theme. With some of my artwork, I hope to gently challenge our perspectives on a subject or expose some part of the world we have come to neglect or no longer acknowledge. The paintings heavily explore a state of being... of relationships in a different time period (“Yvonne Malon” Grandmother), others scary in their accuracy (“The Charlatan Series”, “Too Much Moon”), others are caricatures of a generation (“Push Mower Man”). I often begin a painting with a simple sketch but find myself spontaneously following new experiments and directions. Here is a broad set of oil paintings from Decor and Story to The Charlatans (on the state of the world, the human condition and accelerating changes).
Thank you to the entire team at Cowan Office Supply for providing this space to exhibit the works of local artists.
My studio is in a small quiet forest in Blewett just outside of Nelson, BC.
